Janet Sammons Art Exhibit in Carrboro

| July 20, 2014

JanetSammonsJanet Sammons, local acrylic artist, has a new exhibit at the Town of Carrboro’s Town Hall and also at the Century Center that celebrates the beauty of the natural world. Fifty paintings will be on exhibit between the two venues in which the artist showcases her love of nature. Painting subjects range from lovely landscapes and flowers to birds and animals to seascapes and still life. The dates for the show are August 4-31, 2014.

Janet Sammons was born and raised in Salem Virginia, but received her B.A. in English Literature at The University of North Carolina and has lived in Chatham County for 26 years. Thanks to the support of a loving husband, Janet chose to leave the stress of the corporate world in 2011 to pursue a long-neglected dream of becoming an artist, and learned how to paint using the bountiful resources online. The artist states that she had previously attempted watercolor painting by taking various local classes on and off for about ten years without much success, but when she tried acrylic paints in 2011, she quickly made great progress using this medium.

Part of the impetus to pursue her long-delayed dream of becoming an artist was due to an illness that resulted in a short bout of optic neuritis in the year 2000, in which Janet lost her eyesight for 3 days. The artist expresses her gratitude for the quick recovery in her own words as she states, “I thank God for his glorious creation all around us that endlessly inspires, and for the sight to experience the colors and dance of light and dark.” Janet Sammons is excited to have her first exhibit at the Town of Carrboro’s municipal and community venues.

A reception is scheduled at the Town Hall venue in conjunction with the 2nd Friday ArtWalk (the second Friday evening of each month, 6-9 pm).   The Town Hall is located at 301 West Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510, The Carrboro Century Center is located at 100 North Greensboro Street, Carrboro. Except for the 2nd Friday ArtWalk, their hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
